quality assurance
Quality assurance is the whole organized system that makes sure products come out right every time — not just the testing at the end, but the design, procedures, training, documentation, and oversight that prevent errors in the first place. If quality control is tasting the dish, quality assurance is the entire kitchen discipline that makes the dish reliably good.
QA is a wide umbrella covering good manufacturing practice, written procedures, validated processes and methods, supplier qualification, change control, deviation investigation, batch record review, and the final decision to release or reject a batch. Its goal is consistency: that every unit, every batch, meets its specification because the system is designed and run to deliver that.
QA and quality control overlap and are easy to confuse. A useful distinction: QC is the doing of tests and inspections, while QA is the broader assurance system that includes QC, defines how things should be done, and confirms the whole approach is working. QA is preventive and systemic; QC is one verifying activity within it.
Before a batch ships, QA reviews the complete batch record — checking that every step was performed, signed, and within limits — and only then authorizes release, even after QC has passed every test.
QA owns the release decision; QC supplies the test data that feeds it.
