Standards and benchmarking bodies for neurotech

The organizations building the technical and methodological standards that regulation and reproducibility depend on: shared terminology, reporting requirements, performance benchmarks, and safety and interoperability specifications. The IEEE Standards Association's neurotechnology effort is prominent, with standards such as unified BCI terminology and reporting guidelines for in vivo neural-interface research; ISO and other bodies contribute as well.

Standards matter because much of the field's credibility problem is methodological: inconsistent metrics, unreported negative results, and irreproducible demonstrations. Shared benchmarks and reporting standards make claims comparable and auditable — which regulators, payers, and courts ultimately rely upon.
