Brainprint (Neural Biometric)

A biometric identifier derived from an individual's characteristic neural responses — for example the pattern of event-related potentials to a standardized stimulus battery, or resting-state spectral and connectivity features. Unlike a fingerprint or iris, a brainprint is claimed to be cancellable (a compromised template can be revoked by changing the eliciting stimuli) and hard to covertly capture at a distance, which some propose as an authentication advantage.

The same property is a privacy liability: if neural responses reliably identify a person, then any shared neural dataset is potentially identifying and any BCI is potentially an always-on identity sensor. Reported accuracies are high but on small cohorts over short time horizons; robustness across years, electrode montages, mental states, and adversarial mimicry remains open.
